Hilton is recovering from a minor foot injury, and says because of this there is no expectation to win a medal at this weekends competition.

“Before the injury the plan was get into the final and then see what happens, go with the race and try and win a medal if possible.

Since I’ve got the injury its more of go out and have a bit of fun. If I make the final great, if I don’t I’ve had a bit of an injury, I can’t really do much about it”

Team Solent will be sending 11 athletes including fellow 3,000 metre runner Damon Lanfear.

The long distance runner is feeling the pressure heading into the race due to the fierce competition, but hopes he can overcome his nerves and perform.

“I’m really nervous. It should be interesting to see what happens because the standards really good. so I’m gonna go out there and race my own race and try and relax.”

Kane Lee, who is competing in the 800 metre race, is also confident in performing on the big stage.

“I’ve been training well, I mean I’ve ran a couple good 400’s already but ill just have to see where my endurance takes me for the 800, Yeah I’m looking forward to it.”
