Solent athletics doubtful to medal at BUCS indoor championships
Solent University athletics team head to Sheffield this weekend to compete in the British University and College Sports indoor championships.
There are 11 Solent athletes that are in their final stages of preparations, all looking to medal in the championships.
However, vice-captain Chris Hilton is having doubts about his upcoming performance after recently coming back from a foot injury.
Hilton who competes in the 3000 metres is looking to have some fun while at the event and is not too worried about how he performs.
“Before the injury the plan was to get into the final and see what happens, then try to win a medal if possible.
“But since I’ve got the injury it’s more like let’s go and have a bit of fun, if I make the final great, but if I don’t, I’ve had an injury and there’s nothing much I can do about it.”
Fellow 3000 metre runner Damon Lanfear has been injury free but is very apprehensive about coming up against the high level of competition.
“I’m really nervous because the standard is really good but I’m just going to go out there and race my own race and try to relax.”
Despite the nervousness around the team, Kane Lee is excited at the opportunity to run in the 800 metres after finding good form in training.
“I’ve been training well, I have ran a couple of good 400s (metres) but I’m just going to have to see where my endurance takes me for the 800. So yeah I’m looking forward to it.”
