Solent Athletics Vice-Captain will compete at BUCS event despite injury

Chris Hilton, Vice-Captain of the Solent Athletics team, will run in the 3000 meters at the BUCS (British Universities & College Sports) Indoor Athletics Championships, however, a foot injury puts his medal hopes in serious doubt.

‘Before the injury, the plan was to get into the final and then see what happens, I’m going into the race and try and get a medal if possible…I’m going into it trying to just have fun, if I make the final great, if not, I’ve had an injury and can’t really do much about it’

Team Solent will send 11 athletes, including Hilton, to Sheffield this weekend to compete in this three-day event where the best athletes, currently in higher education, show their skills at the highest level.

Another 3000-meter runner Damon Lanfear is apprehensive about his race but retains a positive outlook.

‘I’m really nervous, it should be interesting to see what happens because the standard is really good, so I’m just going to go out there and race my own race and try and relax’

Kane Lee, who will take the step up to 800m, is confident his approach for the championships.

‘I’ve been training well, I’ve run a couple of good 400 (meters) already but I’ll just have to see where my endurance takes me for the 800 meters, I’m looking forward to it’
