Chi get plum tie with First Round within touching distance

Chichester City will visit either Bowers and Pitsea or Canvey Island for a place in the first round of the FA Cup following Monday’s fourth qualifying round draw.

Miles Rutherford’s side will visit one of these Essex sides for a place in the first round proper of the competition, where Football League clubs enter the fray.

The West Sussex club booked their way into this stage of the competition courtesy of a shock 1-0 win over Enfield Town at a packed Oaklands Park on Saturday thanks to Lloyd Rowlatt’s goal four minutes from time in front of the biggest home crowd in the clubs history.

The Lilywhites will have to wait until Tuesday night to find out who they will face as the two Essex clubs replay at the Len Salmon Stadium following a 1-1 draw at the weekend.

Bowers and Pitsea play a league above Chichester in the Isthmian League Premier whilst Canvey Island play in the Isthmian League Division 1 North, the same level as Chi.

Chichester coach Danny Potter said he will take whatever tie is thrown at them: “We would have been delighted with a home tie but we’ll prepare as we have done so far in the competition to see what we can do to put ourselves in the hat for the next round.

“We’ve got a couple of big games between now and then and we’ll concentrate on putting in a good performance in all those matches.”

The tie at either the Len Salmon Stadium or Park Lane will take place on Saturday October 19.
