Eastleigh FC’s promotion push
As the ‘Vanarama National League’ draws to a close, Eastleigh FC are hopeful of attaining a play off spot, in an attempt to reach the Football League, something they’ve been trying to do since making their debut in the National League back in 2014.
On Saturday, Eastleigh FC fans were welcomed in to the Silverlake Stadium for the first time in 168 days. It was looking like the Spitfire fans would go home without seeing their team score, coinciding with putting a huge dent in their promotion push, until a 93rd minute penalty was given to Eastleigh, which was calmly dispatched by Joe Tomlinson, sending the home fans into long awaited raptures. Eastleigh FC media manager Tom Mullholland highlighted how crucial the fans were and felt they massively contributed with the result.
“In those last few minutes when we were pushing for the winner, it was really good to hear the fans back.”
The Spitfires now have two season defining games left, unfortunately for Eastleigh fans it’s a return to normality as both matches are away, meaning they’ll once again have to show support from their homes.
Despite the pressure, Mulholland reiterated the attitude amongst the club, “From the fans to the players, everyone is in good spirits and thinks we’ll do well – hopefully we do!.”
After eight seasons of attempting to get to the Football League two, Eastleigh came close, losing on penalties to Salford in the semi final back in 2019. If they can get into the play off’s this season, they’ll look to go one further, and give their fans a day out at Wembley!
With two games remaining, six points will confirm they’re in the play off’s!
