Solent Women Return to action

The past few weeks have seen the return of non-elite level football up and down the UK and this was no different here in Southampton where the Solent University women’s football team returned to test park for training and match preparation for the first time since the end of 2020.

The manager Rafa Citron or Rafa the Gaffer as he’s known as by his players explained how good it was to be back and having the trials.

“we have a lot of new names and were just getting to know them, we had 21 players tonight and we still have a few to look at.”

The future looks bright for the women’s team with Citron saying this is the nest group he’s ever had.

“to be honest with you I think this is the best group I have ever had, I think all the players are playing for different clubs and we can see just from the last few hours the level will be very good and I am very impressed, they have the knowledge and skills available. We will be really strong this season.”

New signing Amberley Silk has high hopes for the season and thinks the team can get back to the level they were last year if they can get some games in.

“yeah, I think with football I have seen today we could get there (cup final).”

Good luck to all solvent’s sports teams with their upcoming Fixtures.
