Uni Football returns
This week marked the return to university for a lot of students and with that sports returned as well and that was no different at Solent University, with the football teams returning to training for the first time since the UK was put into a lockdown back at the end of 2020.
There may only be a month left of term but that isn’t stopping the team from training as first team coach Ryan Gillie explained.
“it’s fantastic, I mean we only have a month left of it, but anything is better than nothing to be honest at this point, we have all just been locked up inside waiting to be able to play football so yeah its’ fantastic to be back.”
The team might be back training but with some government guidelines still in place and only a month left it’s been hard to arrange fixtures, but Gillie has managed to put together a league between local universities.
“we have a league between a couple of local uni’s from next week (3rd May) then hopefully varsity but it’s all still up the air to be honest but at least we are meant to be playing something”
The players during lockdown have been trying their best to stay motivated and keep fit, we spoke to first team player Jon Bazley about what they’ve been doing.
yeah I have been keeping fit, we had a little thing where we have been going on runs round Southampton, sort of posting in the chats to keep the boys motivated and trying to keep fit”
Good luck to all solent’s sports teams with their upcoming Fixtures.
