Eastleigh FC Feeling ‘Absolutely Brilliant’ Amid Promotion Pursuit
Eastleigh FC sit one point outside of the play-off places with just two games remaining of their National League season – yet The Spitfires’ head of media, Tom Mulholland, insists the mood at the club is ‘absolutely brilliant’.
“In the few years that I’ve been here, it’s the best year and the best feeling around the club.”
The positive feeling was no doubt enhanced by the result of their most recent fixture, a late 1-0 win over Boreham Wood thanks to a 93rd minute Joe Tomlinson penalty.
The dramatic winner was celebrated by 1,500 fans as they returned to the Silverlake Stadium for the first time since 5th December, something that Mulholland felt impacted the games result.
“In those last few minutes when we were pushing for the winner, it was really good to hear the fans back.”
The result leaves the Hampshire based club just one point away from clinching a play-off spot with a game-in hand over the other contenders for the final place.
Eastleigh are currently in ninth with 65 points, while Chesterfield and Bromley both sit on 66 points in seventh and eighth and Wrexham have 67 points in sixth.
It’s all set up to for a nervy finish as Eastleigh look to gain promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history, making their next game, with Altrincham on Tuesday evening, one that they can’t afford to lose.
Despite the pressure, Mulholland reiterated the attitude amongst the club, “From the fans to the players, everyone is in good spirits and thinks we’ll do well – hopefully we do!.”
The fans will be eager to see their team perform in the last two fixtures in the hope of becoming a League 2 club come the start of next season.
