Spitfire Fans playing big part in promotion push

After last season’s campaign became null and void, the Eastleigh faithful have been starved of watching their football team until last week when Boreham Wood came to town.

A last-minute winner from the spot by Joe Tomlinson, meant the Spitfires leapfrogged several of their National League counterparts into strong play-off contention.

The race for the play-offs are now in the hands of Eastleigh and media manager Tom Mulholland is excited at the prospect at more play off action at the Silverlake Stadium.

He said: “In my few years here, this is the best feeling I’ve had. The fans, players, and everyone else were in good spirits.”

The return of fans may have come at the perfect time for Eastleigh as they are currently on a 4 game winning streak at home, which Tom believes the fans have played a big part in.

“The fans had a massive impact on Saturday, we saw in the last few minutes they were pushing us to get the winner. It was really good to get the fans back, all the hard work paid off.”

Eastleigh have Altrincham and Solihull Moors waiting in the wings in their final two fixtures, with both teams residing in mid-table mediocrity.

If Danny Hollands’ side can with both of these matches, then Eastleigh guarantee themselves a play-off spot with the chance of entering the football league for the first time in the clubs history.

Tom added: “Too reach the play-offs would be massive, we deserve to be there. To visit Wembley would be a dream come true for everyone here at the club”

With it being a tough year financially for football clubs up and down the country a final at Wembley will certainly do Eastleigh no harm, and the sight of fans packed into the Silverlake Stadium isn’t too far away now.
